Ex-Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka in bookies top five for Swansea City job

Aitor Karanka is fourth favourite to replace Graham Potter as Swansea City's new manager according the the bookies.

The 45-year-old has been without a job since his departure from the City Ground back in January.

Last week he was linked with a return to former club Middlesbrough, who continue their search for a manager after sacking Tony Pulis.

But since then his chances of returning to the Riverside have wavered according to the bookies, falling from favourite to 50/1 outsider with Jonathan Woodgate and Slavisa Jokanovic leading the way.

Swansea have been without a manager ever since Potter was tempted to swap to Championship for the Premier League by Brighton.

Keen to replace him with haste, the Swans have employed a three-man selection panel at the Liberty Stadium as they look to find Potter's successor, according to WalesOnline.

Chairman Trevor Birch will call on the expertise of club legends Leon Britton and Alan Curtis to help interview potential mangers with Birch revealing that they already have plenty of applications to work through.

Under-23s coach Cameron Toshack, son of ex-Real Madrid and Wales boss John Toshack, is currently favourite (6/4) the land the role, which would be his first in senior football.

Gus Poyet, who last managed French side Bordeaux, is second on the list (3/1) followed by Newport County boss Michael Flynn (8/1), who has a League Two play-off final to worry about this weekend.

Karanka (12/1) is fourth on the list.

Ex-Reds and Notts County boss Steve Cotterill is also in the running to land a managerial role this summer.

Cotterill, 54, entered the betting to be the next Plymouth Arglye manager on Tuesday and has since remained amongst the front-runners at 14/1.
