Ex-Nottingham Forest ace Kieran Dowell bags hat-trick in 8-0 win over troubled Hull City

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Kieran Dowell scored a hat-trick as crisis-club Wigan thrashed troubled Hull City 8-0 in a crushing Championship victory.

The Latics, who are currently in administration, were in devastating form against the Tigers who suffered one of their worst results in their history.

Dowell was the star of the show with a fine treble as Paul Cook's men continue to ignore their off-field financial troubles with excellent displays on it.

It was not Dowell's first hat-trick against Hull given he scored one for the Reds in a 3-2 win at the Tigers in 2017.

It took Everton-loanee Dowell just an hour to score all of his three goals as Wigan astonishingly went into the break 7-0 up.

Kai Naismith took just a minute to put Wigan ahead before Cook's side scored an incredible six goals in 18 minutes.

Kieffer Moore started the ball rolling in the 27th minute before Dowell, who played 38 games for Forest in the 2018-19 season,  added the Latics' third five minutes later.

Jamal Lowe then got in on the act, before further strikes from Moore and Dowell made it 6-0.

It was left for Joe Williams to hit the seventh in first-half stoppage time before Dowell completed his hat-trick in the second half.

To compound Hull's misery, the Tigers were awarded a penalty but the decision was then reversed as Grant McCann's position looks under threat with the club staring at relegation to League One.
