Ex-Newcastle United youngster Adam Armstrong catching attention of Premier League scouts

A clutch of Premier League clubs are taking an interest in former Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong with the Geordie goal-getter leading Blackburn Rovers' charge towards the play-offs this season.

Armstrong, who Rafa Benitez let go for £1.75million two years ago, has now netted double figures with the Lancashire club trying to force their way into the promotion picture in the second flight.

Still just 23, Armstrong is being looked after by the Stellar Football agency, who also have young English stars like Mason Mount, Jack Grealish and Ben Chilwell on their books.

Armstrong's 10 goals and seven assists in 35 matches have caught the attention of top-flight scouts this term, although he is contracted to Blackburn until 2022.

His recent wonder strike at Hull was the 50th of his senior career in 150 appearances.

It is an even more impressive tally given that Armstrong has been switched from left to right wing as well as centre-forward this season.

Armstrong, who played left-wing for Rovers in their 2-0 win at Charlton Athletic this weekend, said recently: "I’m feeling confident, working hard and it’s paying off.

"I’m playing well, hopefully I can keep it up until the end of the season no matter where I play."

His manager Tony Mowbray said: "He's showing what I know he can do.

"He's only a young boy still. I know personally I wouldn't have wanted to play against Adam Armstrong, with how fast and direct he is.

"I'm just happy that he is enjoying his football and helping the team each week."
