Ex-Newcastle United defender Danny Rose told he can leave rivals Watford after just nine games

Former Newcastle misfit Danny Rose has been axed by Watford after just NINE games following a poor start to life at Vicarage Road.

The England international - who spent six months on Tyneside in 2020 - only signed a two-year deal last summer but has been told he will not feature again this season.

Rose was in the starting line-up against the Magpies alongside another ex-Toon player, Moussa Sissoko, when the two sides battled out a 1-1 draw in September.

Sky Sports report that Rose has been transfer listed with immediate effect and Watford will now listen to offers for the 31-year-old this month.

Newcastle are reportedly interested in a left-back in January but will not be attempting to bring Rose back to Tyneside in a hurry.

The former Three Lions defender, once billed as the country’s best while at Tottenham, made 11 appearances under Steve Bruce in the second half of the Covid-affected 2019/20 campaign.

Rose underwhelmed in a black-and-white shirt and even clashed with a Toon supporter on the train following a 4-0 demolition at Arsenal in February 2020.

The Hornets' decision to offload Rose is a dramatic fall from grace for a player who, less than three years ago, started against Liverpool in the 2019 Champions League final.
