Ex-Newcastle United and England star Kieron Dyer rushed to hospital and is undergoing 'tests'

Ex-England international Kieron Dyer has been rushed to hospital for medical tests.

The 42-year-old, who made 190 appearances for Newcastle United between 1999 and 2007, is "undertaking tests", The Mirror reports.

Dyer currently serves as under-23 manager for Ipswich Town, the hometown club where he began his career, who shared the news on Wednesday.

The club did not explain the reason for the footballer going to hospital and nothing more is known about his condition.

A spokesperson for Ipswich Town FC said: "The club can confirm that Town U23 manager Kieron Dyer is currently undertaking tests in hospital.

"Everyone at Ipswich Town Football Club sends their best wishes to Kieron at this time.

"We ask everyone to respect Kieron’s privacy, and we will be making no further comment on the matter."

Fans responded to the news on social media, wishing him a "speedy recovery" and urging him to "get well soon".

Dyer retired from playing in 2013 after a stint at Middlesbrough, joining Ipswich as an academy coach.

He made 22 appearances for England during his playing career.
