Ex-Newcastle goalie coach Andy Woodman works miracles with Bromley to attract EFL attention

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper coach Andy Woodman is being targeted by Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth after working miracles in the National League with Bromley.

Woodman left a comfortable job at Arsenal as coach to take up the reins at Bromley in his first job as a number 1, and despite fielding a team of young players and teenagers, with a limited budget, Woodman reached the play-offs only to lose narrowly to the team that eventually won them in Hartlepool.

This season Bromley sit in fifth spot in the National League after nine games following SIX consecutive victories.

And having already beaten table toppers Grimsby Town this season they are looking good for another tilt at the play-offs.

Woodman has also guided Bromley to the first round proper of the FA Cup with a clash away to Rotherham awaiting the south east London side.

Bromley striker Billy Bingham has spoken on what it is like working with Woodman.

He said: "He speaks to us most days and keeps our feet on the ground.

"All we are talking about is getting to seven wins in a row.

"Nobody gets carried away and we have a really good changing room."

Woodman's performances as boss have now caught the eye of Charlton who dispensed with the services of Nigel Adkins after slipping to the relegation places.

Woodman spent time at Charlton as a coach under Alan Pardew, who later went on to work with him at Newcastle.
