Ex-Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin catches the eye for Galatasaray with brilliant assist

As Newcastle United struggle for right-back cover, DeAndre Yedlin has made a brilliant start to life in Turkey.

The 27-year-old USA international joined Galatasaray earlier this month on transfer deadline day, leaving Newcastle on a free transfer.

He has since made four appearances for the Turkish giants and he capped his first league start over the weekend with a brilliant assist in their 1-0 win away at Alanyaspor.

Yedlin picked up the ball on the halfway line and whipped a searching crossfield pass to midfielder Emre Kilinc who brought the ball down before advancing on goal and sliding the ball beyond Alanyaspor goalkeeper Marafona.

The win ensured Galatasaray remained top of the Turkish Super Lig with Yedlin in line to win the first major trophy in European football.

It is a far cry from his former club Newcastle who slid further towards the Premier League's relegation zone on Sunday evening with a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United.

The Magpies have lost 12 of their last 16 matches and are just three points clear of the bottom three.

Steve Bruce sanctioned Yedlin's departure on the basis he was out of contract and he was one of three right-backs on the club's books.

It is a decision that has been questioned in some quarters, especially given Javi Manquillo is now out injured and Emil Krafth, arguably the worst of the three right-backs, is now the only player available to Newcastle in the position.
