Ex-Naperville coach pleads guilty to attempted sex abuse, gets probation

April 13--A former volunteer coach at a Naperville middle school pleaded guilty Wednesday to the attempted sexual abuse of one of her players and was sentenced to probation and 15 days in a DuPage County work program.

Shakyla J. Wilson, 23, of Naperville is alleged to have fondled a 14-year-old who was a player for the Hill Middle School girls' basketball team. The incident allegedly took place on Feb. 20, 2015, at a time when Wilson was a volunteer coach for the team, authorities said.

Police said Wilson had accompanied several members of the team to a movie that night and then spent the night with them at a sleepover.

Under the terms of her guilty plea, Wilson was sentenced to sex offender probation for 2 years, which places restrictions on her Internet use and requires counseling as deemed appropriate by the county's probation department, among a list of other terms and conditions.

She also must spend 15 days in the sheriff's department work program.

Wilson began volunteering in an unpaid, unofficial capacity at the end of January 2015, according to Indian Prairie District 204. When school officials became aware of the allegations, the district immediately notified police and informed Wilson she could not be on school property.
