Ex-Motherwell star hopes East Kilbirde connection will help him earn top job

Jim Paterson hopes an East Kilbride connection with Stuart Malcolm can help him find a management job.

The former Kilby number two was in interim charge after Malcolm left the K-Park for Forfar, however failed to land the job permanently.

Now he hopes scouting for the League One side can help him find a top job in the future.

Paterson confirmed he had put his name forward to become Albion Rovers boss with the job eventually being handed to Brian Reid.

The former Motherwell midfielder felt it was important to keep his name out there and keep an eye on lower league sides.

“Malks [Malcolm] asked me to go back in and do some work with them,” he said.

“Doing some reports and scouting out teams, so that’s a good thing for me; turning up at games means people know you are out there.

“It gets me out there in the lower leagues again and see who is playing well if the opportunity comes about again.

I’m desperate to get back into it again but I’m in a position where I could have phoned somebody I know and taken an under-15 team in the Premiership, but I don’t want to.

“I want to be a manager off my own back.

“That’s not to say I would say no to something like East Kilbride, where I went in as number two and gave my experience, but if a job comes up I want to be my own man.

“It’s just a waiting game for me now and trying to build myself up to get that first opportunity.”
