Ex-Met officer stalked woman by repeatedly calling her and turning up outside her house

A stalker Met officer who repeatedly called a woman and showed up outside her home would have been fired if he hadn’t already retired, a misconduct panel has ruled.

PC Javed Sabir - formerly of the Met unit covering Ealing, Hillingdon and Hounslow - pleaded guilty to stalking at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on December 3.

The offence took place between April and October 2021 when Sabir would repeatedly call and text a woman, show up at her home address and follow her.

He retired in June 2021, two months after the stalking began.

On Thursday, a panel found he would have been dismissed without notice if he was still in the force.

Superintendent Anthony Bennett, of West Area Command Unit, Sabir’s former unit, said: “Sabir’s behaviour would no doubt have had a horrible impact on the person he stalked.

“I applaud the woman for her strength in coming forward and having the confidence in police to investigate. I am also proud of the investigative team for building a case against him.

“Police officers are in a position of trust and when an officer acts in this way, we know it erodes that trust between the public and the police.”

He said the force was “committed to rooting out any behaviour which falls short”.

The investigation against Sabir was launched by the Met’s West Area Command Unit.

He was arrested at his home on October 21.

In an interview, he admitted to stalking the woman and knowing his behaviour amounted to an offence.

He was later sentenced at the same court to a restraining order lasting until January 9 in 2023.
