Ex-Mecom chairman backs Local World

Scottish businessman Alasdair Locke has "emerged" as one of the backers of regional newspaper group Local World, which is chaired by David Montgomery, reports Scotland on Sunday.

Locke was chairman of Mecom, the pan-European newspaper publisher founded by Montgomery, and left it soon after Monty's departure in 2011.

According to the newspaper report, Locke "pocketed nearly £120m" in 2007 by selling his Aberdeen-based oil and gas services company, Abbot Group, to a private equity firm.

The major investors in Local World include Trinity Mirror and the Daily Mail & General Trust.
