Former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira was brought to tears after receiving a call from David Luiz following Flamengo's victory over Atletico Paranaense in the Copa Libertadores final.
Pereira was on loan at Flamengo last season when they reached the competition's finale. A tight match with Palmeiras was settled in extra time when the midfielder, under seemingly little pressure, slipped 30 yards from goal allowing Deyverson to break away and score the eventual winner.
After the match, Pereira vowed: "You can count on me, I’ll stay here until we win the next one," in a conversation with fan-group Raca Rubro-Negra via Sport Witness. However, the 26-year-old's hopes of remaining in Brazil were dashed as United and Flamengo failed to reach a deal for the midfielder in the summer.

Instead, Pereira made the switch to Fulham and had to watch from afar as Gabriel Barbosa's first-half stoppage-time strike secured the trophy for Flamengo. Post-match, former Chelsea and Arsenal defender David Luiz, who played his part in the victory over Atletico Paranaense, took the opportunity to video call the ex-United man from inside the winning dressing room.
Overcome with emotions after seeing his old club avenge his error, Pereira broke down on the call as his former teammates celebrated. Sharing the conversation on his Instagram story, Luiz accompanied the screenshot with the caption: "You are a champion brother, we love you."
Pereira will be returning to Manchester on Saturday however it will be the blue half as newly-promoted Fulham, who have enjoyed a positive start to the campaign, travel to Man City.
