Ex-Manchester United defender signs for Nottingham Forest

Defender Tyler Blackett has signed a two-year contract at Nottingham Forest and becomes the Reds’ second summer signing.

Blackett departed Championship rivals Reading earlier this summer and will link up with Sabri Lamouchi’s squad when they report back for pre-season next week.

The former Manchester United youngster appeared to be close to signing a pre-contract agreement with a Turkish club in January, said to be either Trabzonspor or Ankaragucu, though a move failed to materialise owing to concerns over his fitness.

As it was, the defender was one of six players released by Mark Bowen upon the conclusion of the season, joining two ex- Forest  men Chris Gunter and  Garath McCleary  in departing the Berkshire club.

Now 26, Blackett came through the United youth academy before joining Reading in 2016 where he went on to make 116 appearances, including 20 last term.

Since making his debut in 2012, Blackett has had loan spells at Birmingham Blackpool and Celtic, whilst also representing England from Under-16 level through to Under-21.

Forest are short of left-back cover ahead of the new season, with Yuri Ribeiro the only player currently fit and available for boss Lamouchi, with January arrival Gaetan Bong not involved having featured just once since his winter arrival from Brighton.

Blackett will be joined at the City Ground by striker Lyle Taylor, who completed his medical on Friday following Jack Colback's arrival earlier this week.

An announcement on his three-year deal is expected shortly.
