Ex-Man Utd star Shinji Kagawa sends message to Takumi Minamino after Liverpool move

Former Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa has congratulated Takumi Minamino for linking up with "the best manager in the world" at Liverpool .

Minamino completed a £7.25million switch to Anfield on Thursday morning, and will officially start playing for Jurgen Klopp from January 1.

The attacking midfielder impressed Reds fans with his displays against Liverpool in the Champions League this season, scoring a fine volley at Anfield in Red Bull Salzburg's 4-3 defeat in October and proving his side's most dangerous player in the Merseysiders' 2-0 win in Austria early this month.

Kagawa has experience of playing under Klopp in two spells at Borussia Dortmund, which were sandwiched in between two years at Manchester United in which he played 57 games and scored six goals.

Minamino will now follow in the footsteps of Kagawa and become the ninth Japanese player to play in the Premier League, and Kagawa - who these days plays for Zaragoza - tweeted his compatriot following his signing.

The tweet translates as:

“Congrats! You are starting the best challenge! Believe in yourself and do your best under the best manager in the world!”

Minamino - who could make his debut in the FA Cup third round tie against Everton on January 5 - told the Reds website of his excitement at linking up with Klopp.

"I’m looking forward to working with Jurgen Klopp, I think one of my strengths will be to be able to communicate with him in German – because I speak a bit of German – and I’m really looking forward to it," he said.

"I think he is one of the best managers in the world and I always want to improve myself, so it would be great if I could make a contribution to the growth of the team and myself.

"I’m an offensive player so I always want to assist and score goals.

"I would like to maintain that quality and the number of situations that directly lead to more goals and assists.

"I think that is my strength, so I would like to show that strength of mine in this team."
