Ex-Man Utd manager tells Matthijs de Ligt to join Premier League club in transfer window

Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reckons Matthijs de Ligt should sign for a Premier League team - but it isn't the Red Devils.

The Holland international is in hot demand this summer with Barcelona and Manchester United linked with his signature.

The youngster will more than likely end up at the Nou Camp, but neither Van Gaal, nor Peter Bosz, who worked with De Ligt at Ajax, think he should join Barcelona.

Instead, the Dutch duo think the 19-year-old should to move to England and play under one of the best managers in the game right now - Pep Guardiola.

"I think De Ligt fits perfectly with Manchester City ," Bosz told FOX Sports. "Vincent Kompany is already gone and Nicolas Otamendi is not good enough. Then I would love to see him next to Aymeric Laporte."

Van Gaal agreed, adding: "I think exactly the same. Although De Ligt can go to Barcelona too, because I don't like their central defenders either.

"He could play at Barcelona, but he could play for Manchester City also, and in that case I would choose Pep Guardiola over Lionel Messi."
