Ex-Man United man takes aim at Gabby Agbonlahor over criticism of Marcelo Bielsa

Andy Cole has defended Marcelo Bielsa from Gabby Agbonlahor's sustained criticism of the Leeds United boss.

Former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor has often tried to wind Leeds fans up this season with over the top criticism of Bielsa.

In October, Agbonlahor called Bielsa and Leeds a myth after a 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves, comments that came back to haunt the 34-year-old when the Whites ran out 3-0 winners over Aston Villa in their next game.

Agbonlahor stoked the fire between him and Leeds fans in November when he hit out at the fact Bielsa had been nominated for FIFA's best coach award.

Some superb performances everywhere for Leeds United

He told talkSPORT: "Listen, he’s done a great job at Leeds, getting them promoted and their good start to the season in the Premier League.

"But I do think it’s a bit ridiculous for him to be in that top five.

"I think there are so many great managers in world football out there who have done a better job than Bielsa.

"I’m quite shocked. Maybe Danny Mills has done the nominations?

"No, I’m not having it.

"Thomas Tuchel, the PSG manager, he isn’t even on the shortlist.

"No, he didn’t win the Champions League, but he got to the final and won the French title… but Bielsa is in front of him? I’m lost for words."

Yet former Manchester United forward Cole has told Agbonlahor he does not agree with the labelling of Bielsa as a myth.

"I’m having him, by the way," said Cole on talkSPORT. "Hey, Gabby, he’s not a myth at all – I think all the players enjoy playing for him."
