Hiroshima prefectural police on Friday arrested Nippon Professional Baseball player Jay Jackson on suspicion of possessing liquid marijuana in violation of the Cannabis Control Law.

Jackson, a 32-year-old American whose official name is Randy Jackson, was a pitcher for the Chiba Lotte Marines and Hiroshima Toyo Carp.

Sources said he told the police that he does not want to give any statements.

According to a police statement, Jackson is alleged to have possessed a liquid form of marijuana at his home in Mihama Ward, Chiba City, around Tuesday.

That evening, police searched his residence and confiscated a number of containers with a liquid form marijuana inside.

According to the Lotte Marines, team officials were contacted by Jackson, who had returned home after a game that night.

Jackson told the team that investigators from the prefectural police had visited his home.

An interpreter and officials of the team were present during the police search.

The following day, Jackson asked the Marines to release him. He and the Marines officially parted ways on Thursday.
