Ex-Livingston striker Salim Kouider-Aissa wants to prove that he can score goals at Airdrie

Salim Kouider-Aissa insists that he’s got something to prove and he wants to do that by scoring goals at Airdrie.

The 25-year-old striker joined the Diamonds on Thursday after he reached an agreement with Livingston to terminate his contract.

Kouider-Aissa spent time on-loan at Queen’s Park and Partick Thistle last season after joining the West Lothian side last summer but neither move paid dividends.

He moved to the Premiership side after scoring 17 goals with the Spiders during the 2019-20 season and he wants to prove that he can find the back of the net at Airdrie.

“I’m looking forward to the next two years,” Kouider-Aissa said. "Hopefully I will play games and I can score goals again.

“It’s all about getting myself back out there again. It was a bit of a stop-start season last year, it started off alright but then injuries tarnished it.

“Hopefully I can bang them in here. You’ve always got something to prove wherever you go.

“Even to yourself, especially coming off not the best season because every year, you are trying to improve on the season before.

Airdrie boss Ian Murray handed Kouider-Aissa his debut against Annan Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup.

The Diamonds lost on penalties after Calum Gallagher’s miss in the shoot-out but Kouider-Aissa believes Murray’s formed a talented squad that can challenge in League One next season.

He said: “We’ve got a good squad and we should be up there again hopefully come the end of the season.

“Looking around the dressing room, you can see the quality with the older boys and the younger boys as well.

“It’s a great set of boys and I’ve bedded in well. The manager has made me feel very welcome and I just want to score a few goals.

“Adrenalin probably takes you through but I felt fine and I enjoyed it too. There were no fans last season and sometimes you need that little kick or motivation to go again.

“They definitely gave us that today and I’m sure that they will give us it again.”
