Ex-Liverpool star sends message over player linked with Nottingham Forest and Derby County

Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has given his backing to a player linked with a summer transfer to Nottingham Forest.

Crewe Alexandra defender Perry Ng has been tipped with a summer move to the City Ground in recent weeks, with Championship clubs Derby County, Bristol City, Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic also credited with an interest.

Although, reports last month claimed Charlton’s interest in Ng has “not got any real substance”.

The 23-year-old has made 160 appearances in all competitions for Crewe, having graduated from their youth system.

Ng was nominated for League Two player of the weekend for his goal in a 1-1 draw with Morecambe.

This prompted the former Lazio midfielder to take to Twitter to urge fans to vote for the Alex captain.

“Let’s vote for my scouse mate from Crewe,” Lucas tweeted.

The Brazil international’s intervention led to Ng winning the award with 89.5 per cent of the 11,317 votes cast, with Oldham Athletic’s Danny Rowe in second place with 7.4 per cent.

Lucas made 346 appearances for Liverpool before leaving the club after 10 years at Anfield to sign for Serie A outfit Lazio in 2017.
