Ex Liverpool star Pepe Reina says Cristiano Ronaldo goal for Man United should have been disallowed

Cristiano Ronaldo's late Manchester United game-winner against Villarreal should not have counted, claims Pepe Reina.

The former Liverpool goalkeeper took to social media after Manchester United came from behind to beat Villarreal on Wednesday night.

The Spanish side dominated the first-half and took the lead just after the break as Arnaut Danjuma teed up Paco Alcacer to divert the ball home.

United showed great spirit in the second half to turn the game around as Alex Telles fired in an equaliser after Bruno Fernandes found him on the edge of the box from a corner.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's side pushed for a winner and would find it with one of the last kicks of the game when Ronaldo blasted past the goalkeeper after Jesse Lingard cleverly flicked the ball into his path.

But Reina believes that the goal should not have stood.

Reina tweeted after the final whistle in defence of his former club: "Offside all day long..."

His argument was that Jesse Lingard was in an offside position and was blocking the view of the goalkeeper. In response to a fan that claimed it wasn't offside, he added: "Enabled by who? It is in the line of the goalkeeper clearer impossible."

Despite the victory, United remain third in group F as Italian outfit Atalanta sit top - who Solskjaer's team will face in back-to-back Champions League group games in October.
