Ex Liverpool star Jamie Carragher 'thought he was being sacked' after bizarre Erling Haaland interview

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher "thought he was getting sacked" after a bizarre interview with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Haaland scored a brace for Dortmund in their 3-0 Champions League win over Club Brugge on Wednesday evening and was interviewed after the match.

The Norway international now has a reputation of giving reporters quite short and blunt responses to their questions - but this latest one can see none of the blame go in the striker's direction.

In an interview shown on CBS Sports, the 20-year-old was asked very "weird" questions, as presenter Kate Abdo said after the interview.

First of all, the reporter said to Haaland that he didn't have to mess up his hair, as both of his goals were scored with his feet.

The Dortmund star then replied: "Yes, it was a good night, three important points.

“We knew that Brugge want to play and we wanted to press them high and I felt we did that. We wanted to go out and show that we’re a better team and I also felt we did that. As I said a good and important win."

The interviewer then followed that up, by asking: “Are you going to sleep lonely tonight?”

“Erm...yeah,” a very confused Haaland answered.

“You’re not taking a girlfriend home? You didn’t score a hat-trick,” Haaland was then questioned.

“I didn’t score no.” Haaland confirmed.

The very strange interview then concluded and the cameras panned back to the studio with Carragher, and his colleague Micah Richards hysterically laughing.

The former Reds vice-captain said: "Oh, Jesus Christ."

Richards added: "I didn't know where that was going, to be honest!"

Carragher said: "I thought we were all getting sacked!"

The questions from the reporter appear to be in response to Haaland's comments earlier this year.

The former RB Salzburg striker said to Dagbladet: "I sleep with the five balls for each hat-trick I have scored. I lie in bed and I feel good with them.

"I look at them every day. They are my girlfriends."
