Ex-Liverpool skipper urges Jurgen Klopp to snatch Gareth Bale from Real Madrid

Gareth Bale would be the perfect addition to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool squad ahead of the forthcoming season, according to former Reds striker Paul Ince.

The 30-year-old Wales international is on the hunt for a new club after Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane publicly stated he was set for an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Those comments did not sit well with Bale's agent, who dubbed the French icon a 'disgrace', and Bale has now been linked with a host of destinations across the globe.

While a lucrative move to China is the favoured destination for the former Tottenham Hotspur ace, Bale has been linked with a return to the Premier League to re-join Spurs, while Manchester United have regularly been linked with the winger's services.

However, Ince believes that the ideal destination for Bale this summer would be Liverpool and explained why Klopp would benefit from having the Welshman in his ranks.

“In my personal opinion, I think that if Liverpool could afford him, he should go to Liverpool,” he told BBC Radio 5Live.

“The reason I say that is because if you look at the front three, they’ve been playing all over the summer, Mane ’s just finished the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, Salah was with Egypt and Firmino was at the Copa America.

“So how much rest are they going to get before the season actually starts? Bale can play on the right, he can play on the left, he can play central. I know they’ve got Origi and Shaqiri but are they good enough?

“If I was looking at a team, and if they could actually afford him, it would be Liverpool and that’s where Bale is going to have to take a massive drop. It can’t be about money.

“He’d be going to a team that’s the European champions, who just missed out on the league, they want to make a massive attempt again.”

When asked to predict where Bale will be heading after his exile from Real Madrid, Ince once again reiterated his desire for the Reds to bring him to Merseyside.

"I'd love to see him at Liverpool, I really, really would. I think it would be ideal for them, if they want to push the boat out, you've still got four or five years left of him," he added.

"Look at what Cristiano Ronaldo is doing at Juventus, look what he did last year in the Champions League. I think he's a perfect fit for Liverpool."
