Ex-Liverpool scout makes Jarrod Bowen transfer claim amid West Ham exit rumours

Former Liverpool scout Jonathan Woodgate believes Jarrod Bowen would be perfectly suited to the Reds and has questioned whether West Ham can keep hold of the winger this month.

Woodgate took on a scouting role with the Reds back August 2016 after retiring as a player and worked closely with Michael Edwards.

However, the former England centre-back left Liverpool's scouting team to pursue a career in management just under a year after joining the Anfield club.

Bowen has proven to be a major hit with West Ham since joining the club from Championship side Hull City back in January 2020.

The ECHO understands that Bowen is among several forwards Liverpool have been tracking as they consider strengthening their attacking options next summer.

The 25-year-old has scored eight times and registered 10 assists in 30 games in all competitions so far this season for David Moyes’ side.

“He’d fit into the Liverpool system. He’s good enough. He’s improved every step that he has made,” Woodgate told talkSPORT when asked about the speculation.

“We’re talking about England – he would get that pressure. Can West Ham keep hold of him, even this month? Money talks.”

Speaking ahead of his side’s game with the Hammers back in November, Jurgen Klopp spoke about his admiration for Bowen.

He said: "It is good fun watching [West Ham]. They became a high, high intensity team, and you can only become that when you are on the front foot. That's what they are.

"When you want to finish off the situations off, you need top strikers and that's what they obviously have.

"I like Bowen a lot. He made his way up from Hull and took not too long to show exactly what kind of player he can be in the Premier League. He made big steps.”
