Ex-Liverpool player victim of 'cruel Champions League final ticket scam'

A former Liverpool player claims he fell foul of a cruel ticket scam ahead of the Champions League final.

Adam Morgan, 25, a once hotly-tipped upcoming Reds striker , arranged to buy a ticket through Twitter for the June 1 match in Madrid.

He then says he optimistically bought his flights and hotel.

In messages shared on Twitter the forward could be seen asking the seller 'you actually got a ticket mate?'.

The Twitter user then replies "cheers for the follow mate yes I do, I bought it of [sic] my dad but I'm unable to attend unfortunately due to health reasons concerning him mate as need to be in the country'.

In the messages that follow the seller suggests a £200 price tag for the ticket and writes 'I paid £200 for it mate, be happy to get that back I know that sound mad but I'm not trying to rip no-one off as that's  not me. What's your number I send you a text mate. I can't remember my number fs.

"No one at LFC able to help u[sic] mate thought you be a cert to get sorted."

After a number of messages Morgan then asks the seller "am I okay to come tonight to pick it up" to which the seller replies yes but he lives in Northern Ireland.

Morgan then replies "I'll fly there tonight to get it mate".

In the messages that follow Morgan sends his confirmation email, which shows he has booked a flight to Belfast International.

He then wrote: "See you in the morning mate - what a man".

However after getting to the airport and before boarding his flight the former LFC player realises he has fallen foul to a scam, after his messages to the seller go unanswered.

He then sent: "How have you done this to me. I'm through at the airport, everything an[sic] you have done this to me.

"What kind of man does this seriously."

Morgan, who came through the club's youth set-up, was loaned out in 2013 to Rotherham United and then Yeovil Town before making the latter move permanent.

Following the alleged scam, the now Curzon Ashton player shared the exchange on his Twitter alongside a post which read: "When there are people like this in the world what chance you got ay!

"I booked flights to go a[sic] pick a ticket up from Belfast this morning as I am boarding the plane I get a text saying he now can not meet me.

"Flights an hotel booked for Madrid thought I had a ticket sorted, devastated."

The tweet has since been deleted, alongside the thread of messages, however Morgan has been replying to concerned fans who asked did he get on the plane.

Concerned Twitter users tried to console the player following the alleged scam (Adam Morgan)

He replied - "No luckily I never was literally about to get on too! Gutted."

Both Liverpool and Tottenham were given an official UEFA allocation of just 16,613 each for the 63,500 capacity Wanda Metropolitano stadium, the home of Atletico Madrid.

As a result, many fans have struggled to get tickets and have had to resort to buying them second-hand.

Some Liverpool FC fans claim they were conned by scammers using the Hillsborough disaster to convince people to fork out for Champions League final tickets that did not exist.

The alleged scam, which is now the  subject of a police investigation,  involves fans being offered face value tickets in exchange for a £100 "charity donation".

Bogus sellers claim the money will be donated to an appeal for families affected by  the disaster that killed 96 Liverpool supporters in 1989.

However, last night the charity  Justice For The 96  said it had not received a penny and fans were left without tickets,  Mirror Online reports.
