Ex-Liverpool man Danny Murphy shares surprise at potential Mohamed Salah replacement

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has expressed his surprise at the Reds’ links to a potential Mohamed Salah replacement.

Salah has under two years remaining on his Liverpool contract and has been locked in negotiations over a bumper new deal for some time now.

West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen has been linked with a move to Liverpool for a number of months after impressing since his move from Hull City in 2020, but Murphy isn’t impressed with the potential transfer.

Murphy, who was a part of the 2001 treble winning side, doesn’t think West Ham ’s Bowen is the man required if Liverpool are to carry on competing for biggest of honours.

“If you’re looking at winning Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues each year, I’m not sure yet, maybe he (Jarrod Bowen) could get to that level, we’ll have to wait and see,” Murphy told MyBettingSites .

“I have to say that the recruitment at Liverpool has been really good.

“I did hear those rumours and I was a little bit surprised.

“I say surprised not because I don’t like Bowen, I think he has adapted to the Premier League well, I think he’s shown a real appetite to improve his game and get into that West Ham side, playing off the right hand side."

Salah’s future has been a hot topic for discussion this season with the Egyptian in the form of his life having entered the final two years of his contract.

With 11 Premier League goals to his name already this season, Murphy doesn’t believe Bowen is of the level to come in and take the Egyptians place.

“I think Liverpool are going to be buying forward players thinking more long-term, thinking of Salah’s age, Mane’s age.

“I’d be looking at players who are on par near that level and can go straight in and be good as.

“If you’re talking about Salah leaving, Salah doesn’t sign a new contract and someone came in with huge money, do I think Liverpool supporters would be content with Bowen coming in and filling in his shoes, I’d say no.”
