Ex-Liverpool, Chelsea and Sunderland star Fabio Borini's career takes another twist amid Swansea City interest

Fabio Borini looks to be edging closer to his next club.

The Italian striker has been heavily linked with Swansea City since the summer transfer window closed. His free agent status means that he can sign for another club at any time, and it now appears that that move is imminent.

Turkish side Göztepe are in talks with the 29-year-old forward to sign him with immeditate effect.

They currently sit 14th in Super Lig and are looking for attacking reinforcements. Swansea had been in the conversation to bring in their former player, with an out and out goalscorer in the Rhian Brewster mould still missing from Steve Cooper's squad.

Borini joined Swansea on loan from Chelsea as a youngster in their Championship promotion season, scoring vital goals and winning a penalty in the play-off final at Wembley to help the club into the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers was keen to sign the then teenager permanently, but a deal was already agreed with Italian club Parma. A nomadic career followed, with spells at Roma, Liverpool, Sunderland and AC Milan, with his last club being Hellas Verona in Serie A.

His contract expired in September, and Swansea were pondering a move, with talks held in the final week of the summer transfer window.

In October Cooper said : "I got asked about that last Saturday, after the Huddersfield game. I did hear that there had been links and that he's a free agent, but there’s nothing come to me saying that we’re interested in signing him or asking what I think about it.

"I certainly haven’t heard anything this week about any players who may be available on free transfers."

Ultimately talks did not progress, and now Borini's career looks like it will continue in Turkey.

Meanwhile, Cooper is sweating on the fitness of star man Andre Ayew after the attacker was injured on international duty. The Ghana man is now back at Fairwood where he will be examined ahead of the weekend game against Rotherham.
