It’s not been a great couple of days for a couple of prominent ex-Lions now playing elsewhere. Matthew Stafford and Kenny Golladay are each sidelined with injuries suffered in training camp with their new teams.
Stafford aggravated his surgically repaired right thumb in a recent practice with the Los Angeles Rams. He hit his thumb on All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald’s helmet. Initial x-rays were negative, but the longtime Lions quarterback will miss at least a week of practice in Los Angeles.
This isn’t the first time Stafford has injured his hand while striking a defender’s helmet, and he needed the surgery this offseason to help repair the damage from the last time it happened.
One of Stafford’s favorite targets in Detroit is also sidelined with a familiar malady. Kenny Golladay left New York Giants practice on Tuesday with a hamstring injury. There is no immediate word on the severity of the injury, but Lions fans recall Golladay injuring a hamstring almost exactly a year ago and missing the team’s first two regular-season games as a result. Golladay is also coming off a hip flexor injury that limited the big wideout to just 20 receptions in five games in his final year in Detroit.
