Ex-Lions DE Da’Shawn Hand signs with the Colts practice squad

Former Lions defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand is back in the NFL again. Hand signed with the Indianapolis Colts to that team’s practice squad on Tuesday after working out for the team on Monday.

Hand has been a free agent since the Lions released the oft-injured Hand with an injury settlement on November 30th. He had been placed on the IR by Detroit for a second time in the 2021 season, which meant he was not eligible to return for Detroit. But the injury settlement allowed Hand to sign with another team once he could pass a physical.

A fourth-round pick from Alabama in the 2018 NFL draft, Hand missed more games (30) than he played in Detroit (29) due to a litany of separate injuries. He was placed on Detroit’s IR list five times, all for unrelated injuries, in his three-plus seasons with the Lions. Hand recorded two tackles in three games with Detroit in 2021.
