Ex-Linfield teenager makes Sunderland first-team debut

Former Linfield youngster Trai Hume made his Sunderland first-team debut on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old defender was named in the Black Cats side that travelled to Cheltenham for a League One clash.

Hume joined Sunderland during the January transfer window in a deal reportedly worth £200,000.

It has been an encouraging start for Hume who has obviously impressed since making the move across the water.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 international starred for Linfield during the first half of the season and finally earned his much-anticipated move to full-time football in England.

Sunderland fans were excited to see Hume on the team sheet for Tuesday's game at Whaddon Road.

One supporter tweeted: " Good to see Hume, even if he takes a while to settle at least he’s a natural right-back. Also good to see Matete and Clarke. Right decision not to start Defoe for me. Evans needs to start leading tonight."

Another added: "Thank god Trai Hume gets a go but what's happened to Hoffman?? Prefer that team."

Dean joked: "ohhh so Hume isn't just an imaginary signing."

Hume comes into a Sunderland side struggling for form.

The Black Cats had lost their previous two games in League One including a 6-0 hammering to Bolton and a 2-1 reverse to basement club Doncaster.
