Ex-Leicester City, Bolton Wanderers and Bury midfielder joins non-league Radcliffe FC

Former Bolton Wanderers and Bury midfielder Neil Danns has joined non-league Radcliffe FC.

The 37-year-old has linked up with Northern Premier League Premier Division side, the club announced on social media.

Danns had been without a club since leaving Tranmere Rovers over the summer, but has now joined the seventh tier side formerly known as Radcliffe Borough.

The club posted on Twitter: "Radcliffe are delighted to announce the signing of Neil Danns!

"Neil brings a wealth of experience to the club after starring for Bolton Wanderers and Bury FC. Welcome Neil!"

The midfielder initially joined Bolton on loan from Leicester City in 2013 and scored six times over 38 games.

It prompted then boss Dougie Freedman to sign Danns permanently in the summer of 2014 when his Leicester deal expired, and overall he played 116 times for Bolton, scoring 11 goals.

He left the club for Bury in 2016 and spent time on loan at Blackpool in 2017.

In three seasons with the Shakers, Danns scored nine goals in 88 appearances and was part of the side which won promotion to League One in the 2018/19 campaign.

He left the club when the Shakers were expelled from the EFL last year and later signed for Tranmere.

He turned out 10 times for the Prenton Park side before the campaign was curtailed early last season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Danns began his career at Blackburn Rovers and counts Hartlepool United, Colchester United, Birmingham City, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Bristol City and Huddersfield Town amongst his former clubs.
