Forrmer Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has told West Ham that Matty Cash would be a "good signing" as he hailed the Nottingham Forest star's performances.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Coventry star has been impressed with the defender's performances for the Reds this season as the Hammers continue to be linked with the right-back.
Leeds, Aston Villa, AC Milan have all be mentioned as potential destinations for Cash but only Sheffield United have registered a bid of £10m that was rejected.
It is said a fee north of £15m would only tempt Forest to sell and with West Ham said to be monitoring his situation, Whelan feels it would be a sound bit of business for boss David Moyes.
“What a really good signing, he’d be,” the ex-striker said.
“A lot of teams admire Matty Cash and the way the he plays the game. He is tenacious, box-to-box and is another one that has been converted from a winger into a full-back and he plays it extremely well. He has got a great engine on him and a good footballing brain.
“Many clubs are looking at him but I could see him fitting in at West Ham. You have got Ryan Fredericks as well, a very good young player so it would be welcome competition.”
Cash made 45 appearances last season, scoring three goals and also clocked up five assists.
And after West Ham saw Pablo Zabaleta and Jeremy Ngakia depart the London Stadium, they do need to strengthen that department.
But Forest do have the comfort of their star man having three years left to run on his deal and yesterday we reported how Cash is not pushing for a move out of the City Ground.
