Ex-Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira on his future goals as he establishes himself at Sampdoria

Former Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has set his sights on one day winning the FIFA World Cup with England - but also admits that his main priority current lies with his club team.

Despite the 21-year-old being born in Guinea-Bissau, and holding Portuguese nationality, Vieira, who departed Elland Road in the summer of 2018 to join Italian club Sampdoria for a fee believed to upwards of £7million, was allowed to represent England at Under-21 level because he had been educated in the country for more than five years before he turned 18.

Having played and scored in the 2018 Toulon Tournament for England, Vieira has now set his sights on one day getting into the senior England side and one day getting his hands on the biggest prize of all, the World Cup.

Ronaldo Vieira has established himself as a first-team player this season

Speaking to Sky Italy, Vieira explained: "The desire [to win the World Cup with England] is always there.

"That is what I play for. Let's see what happens - I have to do my job here at Sampdoria."

Almost 16 months on from his switch to Italy, Vieira insists that he is happy with how his time at Sampdoria is unfolding so far.

"I am working well, I said this year I would always like to play," added the midfielder. "I must say the whole team is working well."

After making six starts for the Serie A side last season, Vieira has has established himself as a regular this term, starting ten of Samp's first ten games, with the club hoping to improve their form after the international break as they currently sit in the relegation place.
