Ex-Leeds United goalkeeper concerned about Premier League interest in Marcelo Bielsa

Rob Green believes Marcelo Bielsa has turned Leeds United into a fantastic footballing side, but has questioned why he is yet to receive an approach from a Premier League club.

Bielsa took charge of the Whites last season in a move which was seen as a massive coup for the Elland Road club.

And in his first season in charge, he guided the Whites into the play-offs, where they were beaten by Derby County at the semi-final stage.

So far this season, United have been in impressive form and currently sit top of the Championship table on goal difference ahead of West Bromwich Albion.

And despite continued speculation linking him with a move to a Premier League side, the Whites, it is believed, are yet to receive a formal approach for their boss.

As a result, Green believes there has to be a reason why as the Argentine is one of the top coaches in world football.

“You look at the clubs he’s been at. Lille, Lazio, Marseille and Athletic Bilbao, the list is there” the former Premier League goalkeeper told BBC Radio 5Live.

“It can be at times a real hit and miss scenario. There have been times where his way just hasn’t worked.

“It is one of those. He is a bit of an enigmatic character, but then you look at him and the people who have learnt from him and the way they talk about him. The Guardiolas, the Klopps, people like that, they go this guy is a genius, a god, this is what it is about.

“Then you say why has he not had the jobs they have got? What is it that is missing?

“I can’t fathom it because he has turned Leeds into a team that plays fantastic football at times and it is great to watch, but then at the same time you think there might be something missing we are missing as well.”
