Ex-Leeds United ace highlights key advantage Aston Villa and Sheffield United have

Former Leeds United defender Stephen Warnock has identified what he believes is the big difference between Marcelo Bielsa’s side and their promotion rivals.

Back-to-back defeats over the Easter weekend have left the Whites hopes of automatic promotion in tatters and Bielsa’s side will now have to prepare for a likely venture into the play-offs.

That is a difficult prospect, especially considering the recent form of Aston Villa, and Warnock believes Dean Smith’s side, as well as Norwich City and Sheffield United, have one clear advantage in their squads.

According to the former defender, United lack a killer instinct in front of goal and that has held them back this term.

“They look tired, they look lost of ideas. Their form since January? Not good enough,” he told EFL on Quest.

“I think they’re probably ninth in the form table since January and losing seven out of 17.

“When we talk about Sheffield United and Norwich, they’ve both got strikers who are scoring goals. Leeds don’t have that – they’ve got Kemar Roofe, but not enough goals in the team as well.”

Bielsa’s side face fellow promotion-chasers Aston Villa on Sunday in their penultimate clash of the season, where their chances of a top-two finish will be wiped away if they drop points and Sheffield United win on Saturday.

Leeds then face already relegated Ipswich Town on the final day, with a likely play-off semi-final against the sixth-placed side in the division to follow.
