Ex-Jets TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins joins Patriots on one-year deal

After a brief stay in Jacksonville, former Jets tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is back in the AFC East.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Seferian-Jenkins has agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots worth the league minimum. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that he chose New England over the Seattle Seahawks.

The 26-year-old tight end spent two seasons with the Jets from 2016-17. He didn’t see much playing time in his first season, only appearing in seven games with 10 catches and 100 yards. In 2017, though, Seferian-Jenkins became a huge part of the Jets’ offense. He had the best season of his career, finishing with 50 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns.

After the Jets decided not to bring back Seferian Jenkins, he signed a two-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, after a season that was plagued by injury, the Jaguars declined his option, making him a free agent. In five games, he had 11 catches for 90 yards and a single touchdown.

With Rob Gronkowski now retired, Seferian-Jenkins has an opportunity to be a vital part of New England’s offense. Unfortunately for the Jets, they’ll have to face him twice this upcoming season.
