Ex-Jets QB Mark Sanchez retires from NFL to start TV career

Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is hanging up the cleats for good and heading to television.

According to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, Sanchez is retiring from the NFL and joining ABC as a college football analyst. He will be replacing Mack Brown on the broadcast and will be alongside Kevin Negandhi and former Jet Jonathan Vilma.

Marchand also noted that Sanchez auditioned for a job at Fox Sports, but they couldn’t find a spot for him.

Sanchez stayed in the league for a decade, playing in four seasons with the Jets after they drafted him No. 5 overall in 2009. His career got off to a great start when he led the Jets to back-to-back AFC championship game appearances. Everything changed for Sanchez after that. He spent three more seasons with the Jets but played in only two of them before being released in 2014.

Sanchez then spent two years in Philadelphia before going to Dallas in 2016. He had a year with the Bears in 2017 in which he was suspended for four games and never appeared in a game. The last stop Sanchez made was with the Redskins last season.

For his career, Sanchez had a 56 percent completion rate and threw for 15,357 yards with 86 touchdowns and 89 interceptions.

It’s safe to say that Sanchez’s career in the NFL didn’t go as expected, but hopefully his new career in the studio will bring him much more success.
