Another former Jet has made it to the Hall of Fame. Well, the WWE Hall of Fame.
That would be none other than Wahoo McDaniel. A linebacker for the Jets, he was then a high profile wrestler in the 1970s and 80s.
McDaniel was with the Jets for two seasons in 1964 and 1965. He played middle linebacker for Gang Green. In 26 games, McDaniel had four interceptions for 67 yards and a touchdown. The number of tackles he had is unknown because such things were not recorded in those days. However, he did record 23 tackles in game against the Denver Broncos.
McDaniel also made stops in Houston, Denver and Miami during his nine-year playing career.
As a wrestler, McDaniel won the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship five times. He also was well known in the National Wrestling Alliance. In addition, he wrestled for Championship Wrestling from Florida, Georgia Championship Wrestling, NWA Big Time Wrestling and Jim Crocket Promotions.
McDaniel retired from wrestling in 1996 as his health started to decline. He lost both his kidneys and died of renal failure in 2002. McDaniel was 63 years old.
