Ex-Jets LB Lorenzo Mauldin working on comeback

Former Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin has not played NFL football in two years now, but he is hoping to make a return.

According to the Associated Press’ Dennis Waszak Jr., Mauldin will play in the Spring League later this month and in April.

The Spring League is a semipro developmental football league that allows players to try to re-establish their careers.

Mauldin, 26, was a third-round pick by the Jets in 2015 out of Louisville. In his rookie season, he was solid as a pass rusher. Mauldin registered four sacks in in 15 games to go along with 17 tackles. In 2016, Mauldin started in three games and only played in 11 total games. He had 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two passes defensed.

Mauldin never played in another regular-season game with the Jets after suffering a back injury in training camp in 2017. He landed on injured reserve and missed the entire 2017 season. Mauldin competed for a spot on the roster last summer, but the Jets decided to cut him.
