After spending one season with the Jets, Jason Myers is excited to be back with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Jets let Myers walk this offseason after he had a career year in 2018. He signed a four-year deal with Seattle worth $15.45 million, which was too rich for the Jets’ wallet. Myers was with the Seahawks during training camp last season before being released, but he is glad that he is back in Seattle.
“It feels the same,” Myers told reporters. “I was very comfortable with everybody last year. Big part of the reason why I came back. Everything kind of felt like I never left in a way so just kind of building off what we did last year.”
Myers was a Pro Bowl kicker with the Jets last season. He made a career-high 33 field goals and was as efficient as he’s ever been in his career with a field goal percentage of 91.7. Now that he’s back in Seattle, Myers is looking to carry over what he did last season with the Jets.
“A fresh start, kind of,” Myers said. “What I went through two years ago, I took it as more of a learning experience than trying to get down on myself for getting let go in Jacksonville. I took that as a positive and I knew I was hitting the ball well out here last year, and it kept clicking back there in New York.”
The Jets wanted to bring Myers back, but they didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a kicker. Instead, they brought back Chandler Catanzaro on a cheaper deal. Once Myers was informed the Jets weren’t going to re-sign him, he was set on teaming up with the Seahawks again.
“I definitely had my eye on Seattle the whole time,” he said. “And for them to call us, it was a perfect fit.”
