A former executive of struggling liquid crystal display panel maker Japan Display Inc., who was dismissed for allegedly embezzling 578 million yen, has died in an apparent suicide in Tokyo, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.
The former executive, who was dismissed in December 2018, is believed to have committed suicide in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, in late November, according to sources.
JDI accused the former executive of embezzling 578 million yen between July 2014 and October 2018 by arranging payments to be made to a fictitious company.
JDI filed a criminal complaint with the Metropolitan Police Department after the former executive's dismissal.
