Ex-Ireland defender Stephen Ward set for Ipswich Town departure

Former Republic of Ireland international Stephen Ward is set to leave Ipswich Town after the club decided against offering him a new deal.

The 35-year-old has made 29 starts this season for the Tractor Boys and is one start away from triggering an automatic contract extension. The last time he featured for Paul Cook's side was on 24th April.

Speaking to the club website Cook said, "Stephen has been an absolute pleasure to work with.

"He conducts himself great, he leads by example, and it’s no surprise he’s had the career he’s had.

“Everyone at the club wishes Stephen all the best for the future and thank him for his efforts this season.”

The former Bohemians, Burnley and Stoke City full-back signed for Town in August 2020 on a one-year deal.
