Ex-Hibs midfielder Dylan McGeouch could leave Sunderland for free this summer

Dylan McGeouch could leave Sunderland for nothing this summer, according to reports in England.

The midfielder has been a bit-part figure under jack Ross, and didn’t make the squad for their play-off final defeat to Chartlton at Wembley.

The ex-Hibs man admitted he has a decision to make this summer, and was mentioned as one of the players discussed by current Easter Road boss Paul Heckingbottom at a Q&A session for supporters.

Now Chronicle Live are suggesting that McGeouch is actually out of contract sooner than thought after the length of deal he signed last year wasn’t made public.

The Northern Echo reports there is interest in the player from north of the border, but from Aberdeen rather than his old club in Edinburgh.

Blackburn, Brentford and QPR are also thought to be interested. The London club are now managed by ex-Rangers boss Mark Warburton, who knows only too well what McGeouch can bring to a side having faced him on numerous occasions during his time at Ibrox.

Given McGeouch’s wage at Sunderland is understood to be more in line with those paid in League One rather than those who came down with the Black Cats from the Championship, they may try and persuade him to stay if more game time is likely.

It appears Hibs fans would welcome him back to Easter Road. 78% of those who vote din Edinburgh Live's poll were in favour of signing him.
