Ex-Hibs hero John McGinn to make English Premier League bow against Tottenham

John McGinn will make his Premier League debut away to Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur after the English top flight fixtures were released this morning.

The former Hibs favourite headed Aston Villa to victory in the play-off final over Derby County at Wembley last month.

The win means a tidy windfall for the Easter Road club with a promotion clause built in to the deal that took him to Birmingham last summer.

Now he’s preparing for his first taste of big money division, and it’ll come at the recently transformed White Hart Lane against Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

The game will kick-off at 5.30 to allow for live broadcast on Sky Sports.

McGinn will come up against a couple of his Scotland teammates during the first few week’s of the season as well.

Ryan Fraser’s Bournemouth are their second opponents of the season at Villa Park the following week, while he is likely to be in direct opposition to the “Mayor of Norwich” Kenny McLean when Villa go to Carrow Road at the start of October.

McGinn’s first season at Villa was highly successful on an individual basis as well. He scooped both the club’s Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards, as well as winning goal of the season for a stunning volley at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Hibs and Scotland fans will watch no doubt watch on with interest to see what impact he has in the self-styled “best league in the world”.
