Ex-Hearts striker Mike Tullberg to become Borussia Dortmund coach

Former Hearts striker Mike Tullberg will take over as Borussia Dortmund Under 23 coach in the summer.

The Danish striker spent the 2008/09 season on loan at Tynecastle, but managed just seven appearances for the Jambos after injuries wrecked his chances of making an impact.

After retiring in 2011, the 33-year-old’s coaching career has taken him from Germany with Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, to his native Denmark as manager of AGF ‘s U19 side.

Tullberg, who holds his UEFA A coaching licence, has agreed a three-year contract to take charge of the German giants’ under 23 side.

Arnaud Djoum linked with summer move to French club Toulouse when contract expires

Most recently, Tullberg was assistant coach at Danish top flight club Vendsyssel FF, but will depart at the end of the current campaign to join BVB.

Dortmund has proved a fertile breeding ground for coaches who have gone on to manage successfully in Britain.

Current Norwich City boss Daniel Farke looks set to be on course for promotion to the English Premier League with the Canaries, having made the move to Carrow Road from Dortmund in 2017, where he had coached for two years.

Former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner took a similar path, winning promotion with the Terriers in in May 2017 before being sacked earlier this year.
