Ryan Stevenson has left Albion Rovers by mutual consent following a five-month spell at Cliftonhill.
The ex-Hearts and Ayr star was brought to the club by boss Brian Reid in March to help steer them away from the fear of relegation in League Two.
And the 37-year-old did just that as they finished seventh in the division last term.
Stevenson – who had extended his deal at the start of the season – made 16 appearances and netted two goals for Rovers across his spell in Monklands.
His last appearance came on Saturday during the 2-1 defeat at Stirling Albion.
Reid told Lanarkshire Live Sport Stevenson’s exit is down to work commitments and travel from Ayrshire, as he hinted the player may have hung up his boots.
He said: “It was an issue where he’s taken on a new business and he has a young family, and he moved further back down Ayrshire way.
“It was becoming a bit of a struggle for him to get to training and stuff like that, he wanted to spend more time with his family and his commitments at his work had changed.

"He’s 37, he’s had a good career, and he has been a good professional, he did well for us last season.
“It’s unfortunate that it has come to this, but all good things must come to an end.
“He’s at an age now where the body maybe doesn’t do as much as it used to do, and he’s too honest a lad that he wouldn’t want to affect the club and stuff like that, so he’s decided that it was a good time for finishing.
“We would like to thank him, he came in and did a good job last season, helped us with his experience and stuff like that, so we wish him well for the future."
Reid was already looking to bring in players, but says the board have given him permission to seek a replacement for Stevenson.
He said: "I’m hoping to bring in possibly one or two and it’s nothing to do with the deadline, because we’re not affected by that.
“We'll maybe bring in two, but one will certainly be a loan and I’ll probably need to bring another striker in, because it leaves us a wee bit short.
“It’s whether I can afford it, but it does free up some money and the board have been good enough to say I can use that money for somebody else.”
