June 17--Retired NFL guard Mike Wahle, who spent nearly a decade protecting Brett Favre as a fixture on the Green Bay Packers' offensive line, has listed a La Jolla home capable of offering premium wine protection.
On the market for $6.895 million, the ocean-view home in Lower Hermosa includes a 1950s bomb shelter that has been converted into a 1,600-bottle wine cellar and tasting room.
The repurposed Cold War relic is one of many updates made to the Spanish Colonial-style home. Built in the early 1900s and renovated in 2009, the house features such details as distressed black walnut floors, a wall aquarium, an elevator and a grand foyer set beneath a hand-blown glass chandelier.
Two levels of living include large formal areas, a family room, a wet bar, an open-area kitchen, five bedrooms and eight bathrooms in 5,100 square feet. Curving walls of glass take in panoramic ocean views.
