Ex-Giants QB Anthony Wright shot multiple times in North Carolina

Former New York Giants quarterback Anthony Wright was rushed into emergency surgery and subsequently hospitalized on Monday after being shot multiple times during a domestic dispute, North Carolina police say.

Wright and his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend had reportedly engaged in a verbal altercation when the latter dropped off his daughter, ultimately leading to Wright being shot repeatedly in his body.

Although no arrests have yet been made, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of William Moses Hooker Jr. for “assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.”

“After speaking with witnesses on the scene it was determined that Mr. Wright got into a verbal altercation with his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend,” a police release said, via Yahoo! Sports. “This altercation began when the ex showed up to drop off his daughter. An argument ensued and shots were fired.”

Wright was signed as an undrafted rookie by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1999. He later joined the Dallas Cowboys (2000-2001), Baltimore Ravens (2002-2005) and Cincinnati Bengals (2006) before finding his way to the Giants in 2007.

With New York, Wright served in a backup role with Jared Lorenzen, who is also currently hospitalized and battling for his life, earning a championship ring as part of Super Bowl XLII.

In 31 career games (19 starts), Wright compiled a record of 8-11 while passing for 3,590 yards, 20 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.

Wright is listed in stable condition.
