Ex-Giant Victor Cruz donates hundreds of shoes to kids in need

During his time with the New York Giants, wide receiver Victor Cruz was a fan favorite. In fact, it wasn’t long ago that “Cruuuuuz” chants filled MetLife Stadium while No. 80 was lighting up the field.

Last week, Cruz made a surprise appearance at a Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) event to donate hundreds of shoes to kids in need in the Bronx. This was the start of DSW’s summer of giving, during which they will donate over 100,000 shoes for students to wear as they return to school in the fall.

“It’s amazing what kids can accomplish with something as simple as a pair of shoes,” Cruz told AOL.com. “It makes them feel like they can run faster, jump higher, and sparks their sense of style and confidence.”

“That’s why we give back. To have these kids smile and enjoy themselves and have fun.”

Cruz has an extremely strong sense of style, making him a great person to appear at the event.

The former Pro Bowler has transitioned nicely into his post-playing career. Cruz is now an analyst at ESPN as he stays involved in the game.

Cruz was notoriously known for his post-touchdown salsa dance which was dedicated to his grandmother. He also created “Cruzday Tuesday” where he encouraged fans to share photos of their kicks.

It’s always good to see Cruz remaining involved locally and continuing philanthropy.
