Ex-Giant Robert Ayers announces retirement

Former New York Giants defensive end Robert Ayers announced his retirement from professional football after nine seasons with a Facebook post on Tuesday morning.

“THATS ALL FOLKS • SO THANKFUL… Was a helluva run @NFL but the time has come.. On to the next chapter of life…. #Retired #Blessed,” Ayers wrote.

Ayers was selected by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft and would remain with the team through the 2013 season.

Following his tenure with the Broncos, Ayers would join the Giants for two years before moving on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-2017) and then having a cup of coffee with the Detroit Lions.

During his time with the Giants, Ayers appeared in 24 games (12 starts), recording 63 tackles, three forced fumbles, 36 QB hits, 14 sacks and five passes defensed.

In 120 career games, Ayers recorded 265 tackles, 35 sacks, 19 stuffs, nine forced fumbles and 14 passes defensed.
