Former New York Giants linebacker Reggie Torbor and his wife, Michelle, have recently opened the Taproot Cafe in Hoover, Alabama.
“We believe that this route is worth it. Playing our part in the sustainability of people, the environment and our local economy is worth it. We want to see others understand their power to make a difference as well,” Michelle told the Birmingham Business Journal.
The restaurant will serve smoothies, salads, sandwiches and toasts — all of which will be locally sourced. And their mission statement centers around connecting people through good and healthy foods.

Torbor was a fourth-round pick of the Giants in the 2004 NFL draft out of Auburn. He remained with Big Blue through 2007 and was a part of the Super Bowl XLII-winning team.
In 2008, Torbor signed with the Miami Dolphins before ultimately finishing his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills (2010-2011).
In 104 career games (28 starts), Torbor was credited with 250 tackles (23 for a loss), four forced fumbles, 14 QB hits, 6.5 sacks, 13 passes defensed and two interceptions.
Torbor also recorded two tackles in that 2007 championship win over the New England Patriots.
